Dutch energy infrastructure company Gasunie intends to realise a hydrogen network in the German part of the North Sea, which is to play an important role in the large-scale import of hydrogen from Norway and the increasing supply of green hydrogen from future wind farms in the North Sea.

ENEOS Corporation has constructed a demonstration plant in Brisbane, Australia, to produce methylcyclohexane (MCH), a type of hydrogen carrier, using its proprietary electrochemical synthesis of organic hydride method (Direct MCH^®). The opening ceremony was held on 30 January.

Dutch energy network operator Gasunie has announced today that it is to become a partner in the H₂CAST project led by STORAG ETZEL. The H₂CAST project (H₂ Cavern Storage Transition) aims to enable large-scale hydrogen storage in the Etzel salt caverns in the German state of Lower Saxony.

Tank storage company Vopak and Hydrogenious LOHC Technologies have revealed plans to incorporate an equally shared joint venture, named LOHC Logistix, for hydrogen storage, transport and supply based on Hydrogenious’s Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier (LOHC) technology.

Researchers from Pusan National University have investigated the heat flows and phase changes within a cryogenic hydrogen fuel tank, to reveal key insights for their safe and efficient design. From their experiments and simulations they found that boil-off gas increases quadratically with the tank filling ratio.

After a six-month construction period, Air Liquide has completed a hydrogen pipeline to thyssenkrupp Steel in Duisburg, Germany’s largest steel mill. Measuring approximately four kilometres in length, the pipeline connects the Duisburg steel mill site with Air Liquide’s hydrogen network in the Ruhr district.

Air Products and Mabanaft have announced their intention to build Germany’s first large-scale, green energy import terminal in the Port of Hamburg. Targeted to provide hydrogen to Germany in 2026, the planned import terminal is to be located at Mabanaft’s existing tank terminal in the Port.

Butt-weld fittings specialist Erne Fittings is set to present in-house developed and manufactured high-tech components for hydrogen transport. Recently, the company has been awarded certification from TÜV SÜD for its quality management system for the production of fittings for hydrogen pipelines.
