Water electrolyzers are electrochemical devices used to split water into its constituent elements, hydrogen and oxygen, by passage of an electrical current. There are four main types of electrolyzers: alkaline and proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers are already mature, while anion exchange membrane (AEM) and solid oxide electrolyzers are still under development. These technologies differ in numerous ways, most notably in cell design and variations within components. Verdagy, a U.S. developer of advanced water electrolysis technologies for large-scale industrial applications, has announced its new facility opening in Newark, California, with more than 100,000 square feet of advanced manufacturing space.
Hexagon Purus today opened its new hydrogen cylinder manufacturing hub in Kassel, Germany. The new 83,000 ft² facility can support annual production of more than 40,000 type 4 high-pressure hydrogen cylinders for fuel cell electric mobility and hydrogen infrastructure applications.
Milani and Stargate Hydrogen have announced a partnership on hydrogen production system integration and their first joint project in the field. As part of the agreement, Stargate Hydrogen will deliver a 100 kW electrolyser stack to be used in the first demonstration installation by Milani.
Atlas Copco has launched the H2P, a hydrogen compressor capable of following the electrolysis production profile. Thanks to its speed-controlled technology, the compressor can compensate for fluctuations in hydrogen production and ensure optimal efficiency, thereby reducing energy losses.
SIAD Macchine Impianti has designed four compressors for a biorefinery in Venice, to be implemented in the hydrogen production line. The order includes three hydrogen compressors with horizontal balanced opposed cylinders, powered by a 450 kW electric motor.
Skyblue Smart Equipment has announced that its ‘Tlec No. 1’ 1,000 Nm³/h alkaline electrolyzer has passed the Bureau Veritas’ HAZOP analysis and obtained its SIL assessment certification as well as explosion-proof certification in accordance with the ATEX Directive.
Siemens Energy is supplying 12 electrolyzers with a total capacity of 200 MW to Normandy, France. Air Liquide will operate them in its Normand’Hy project. Starting in 2026, its plant in the Port-Jérôme industrial zone will produce 28,000 tons of renewable hydrogen annually for industry and the mobility sector.
