Water electrolyzers are electrochemical devices used to split water into its constituent elements, hydrogen and oxygen, by passage of an electrical current. There are four main types of electrolyzers: alkaline and proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers are already mature, while anion exchange membrane (AEM) and solid oxide electrolyzers are still under development. These technologies differ in numerous ways, most notably in cell design and variations within components. Lhyfe has signed a 16-year electricity supply contract with VSB Energies Nouvelles, under which 100% of the green electricity produced by VSB’s wind farm in Buléon will be for the Lhyfe Bretagne site. The 5 MW facility will produce up to 2 tonnes of hydrogen a day, supplying local mobility and industrial users.
NewHydrogen, the developer of a breakthrough technology that uses clean energy and water to produce green hydrogen, today released a podcast video by Steve Hill, the Company’s CEO, which describes in detail how the company plans to use heat rather than electricity to split water to produce hydrogen.
In the largest private placement in Europe this year, H2 Green Steel has raised about €1.5 billion in equity from an investor group led by Altor, GIC, Hy24 and Just Climate. The round will finance the world’s first large-scale green steel plant and Europe’s first giga-scale electrolyzer, scheduled for commissioning in 2025.

Finland’s first industrial-scale green hydrogen production plant project reached an important milestone as deliveries of Sunfire’s electrolysis equipment, which is to produce green hydrogen in Harjavalta, started on 23 August. P2X Solutions’ plant is slated to be completed in 2024.
Gaznat AG, a Swiss company supplying and transporting high-pressure natural gas to western Switzerland, has inaugurated the GreenGas project. This power-to-gas project will test the industrial-scale development of CO₂-neutral renewable gases, such as methane and hydrogen.
EKPO Fuel Cell Technologies and H-TEC SYSTEMS will collaborate on stack component development for PEM electrolyzers. As part of the cooperation, EKPO will bring expertise in component development and large-scale production, and in scrap reduction through automated production.
