Water electrolyzers are electrochemical devices used to split water into its constituent elements, hydrogen and oxygen, by passage of an electrical current. There are four main types of electrolyzers: alkaline and proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers are already mature, while anion exchange membrane (AEM) and solid oxide electrolyzers are still under development. These technologies differ in numerous ways, most notably in cell design and variations within components. Proton Motor to expand fuel cell manufacturing capability

Proton Motor Power Systems plc, the UK parent company of hydrogen fuel cell manufacturer Proton Motor Fuel Cell GmbH, has signed a 15-year lease agreement for a 13,500 m2 production facility, which will be used to significantly expand the company’s manufacturing, testing and development capabilities.

McPhy Energy takes FID for electrolyzer Gigafactory in Belfort

McPhy Energy has announced the final investment decision (FID) for its Gigafactory of alkaline electrolyzers on the Belfort site in France, taken by its Board of Directors on 26 October. Commissioning is scheduled for the first half of 2024, with a gradual ramp-up to reach an annual production capacity of 1 GW.

Bloom Energy inaugurates high-volume electrolyzer production line

On 1 November, Bloom Energy inaugurated its high-volume commercial electrolyzer line at the company’s Newark, Delaware facility, increasing its generating capacity of electrolyzers to 2 GW. The award-winning technology is said to be the most energy-efficient design to produce clean hydrogen to date.
