Water electrolyzers are electrochemical devices used to split water into its constituent elements, hydrogen and oxygen, by passage of an electrical current. There are four main types of electrolyzers: alkaline and proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers are already mature, while anion exchange membrane (AEM) and solid oxide electrolyzers are still under development. These technologies differ in numerous ways, most notably in cell design and variations within components. In this section you can find news items related to various aspects of electrolyzer technologies, equipment and components. If you would like to see your news release published here and in our email newsletter, please feel free to contact Matjaž Matošec.

Singapore-based Horizon Fuel Cell Technologies, through its electrolyser subsidiary HET Hydrogen, is preparing to deploy a 5 MW anion exchange membrane (AEM) electrolyser system with a subsidiary of Rockcheck Steel Group Co Ltd in Tianjin, China. Expected to become operational by the end of 2025, the installation is described as a world-first at this scale for AEM technology.

Asahi Kasei will supply its Aqualyzer™-C3 containerized 1 MW-class alkaline water electrolyzer to a hydrogen production initiative led by the Central Finland Mobility Foundation (Cefmof). The system is expected to begin full operation in the first half of 2026 and will support efforts to decarbonize Central Finland’s transportation sector.

Doosan Fuel Cell has commenced mass production of fuel cell stacks and power systems based on Ceres Power’s solid oxide technology. The systems are being manufactured at Doosan’s dedicated facility in Jeollabuk-do, South Korea, with an annual output of fuel cell systems capable of generating 50 MW of electricity.

Envision Energy has announced the successful completion of the world’s first green marine ammonia bunkering operation, marking a major milestone in the decarbonization of maritime transport.

Air Liquide has taken the final investment decision to build ELYgator, a 200 MW electrolyzer in Maasvlakte, in the Port of Rotterdam. The facility will combine PEM and alkaline technologies on the same site – a first of its kind – and is expected to be operational by the end of 2027.

DNV has completed a comprehensive technical review of Electric Hydrogen’s HYPRPlant, validating its alignment with current industry standards for process design, safety, and manufacturing process.

L&T Energy GreenTech Ltd (LTEG), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Larsen & Toubro, will establish India’s largest green hydrogen plant at Indian Oil Corporation Ltd’s (IOCL) Panipat Refinery in Haryana.
