Water electrolyzers are electrochemical devices used to split water into its constituent elements, hydrogen and oxygen, by passage of an electrical current. There are four main types of electrolyzers: alkaline and proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers are already mature, while anion exchange membrane (AEM) and solid oxide electrolyzers are still under development. These technologies differ in numerous ways, most notably in cell design and variations within components. Lhyfe and UGITECH, a subsidiary of Swiss Steel Group, have signed a memorandum of understanding for the creation of a green hydrogen production unit near Ugitech’s Ugine site in Savoie, France, to decarbonise part of the steelmaker’s industrial operations.
ITM Power has been appointed by Hygen Energy, a developer, producer, and asset owner of low-carbon hydrogen production facilities in the UK and Europe, as the preferred supplier of PEM electrolysers for hydrogen projects within the UK and across wider Europe.
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) has started operation of a test module of the Solid Oxide Electrolysis Cell (SOEC), a next-generation high-efficiency hydrogen production technology, at Takasago Hydrogen Park, located within its Takasago Machinery Works in Takasago City, Hyogo Prefecture, in west-central Japan.
TÜV NORD EnSys has partnered with Munich-based technology firm Atmen, aiming to assist hydrogen and e-fuels project developers in navigating the complexities of EU sustainability compliance and certification – a critical aspect of business operations even before supply chains are fully operational.
Nel has partnered with Hy Stor Energy on the Mississippi Clean Hydrogen Hub (MCHH) and received a capacity reservation for more than one gigawatt of alkaline electrolysers. The MCHH project will be the largest zero-carbon, off-grid hydrogen production and salt cavern storage hub in the United States.
Plug Power has signed two additional contracts to deliver Basic Engineering and Design Packages (BEDP) for projects in Europe and the United States, with a combined capacity of up to 350 MW of electrolyzers. These agreements enhance Plug’s overall BEDP portfolio, bringing the company’s total amount of global BEDP contracts to 4.5 GW.
Green Hydrogen Systems and BWSC, an international engineering company and service provider, have signed a strategic collaboration agreement to expand their collaboration on green hydrogen projects. This agreement is a continuation of the collaboration between the two companies on the installation of the X-Series prototype at GreenLab in Skive, Denmark.
Ohmium International has formed a strategic partnership with Tata Projects, with the aim of bolstering green hydrogen projects in India, combining innovative technology with proven engineering excellence. Ohmium will provide PEM electrolyzers while Tata Projects will manage the entire EPC process, including engineering, design, integration, and optimization.
