Water electrolyzers are electrochemical devices used to split water into its constituent elements, hydrogen and oxygen, by passage of an electrical current. There are four main types of electrolyzers: alkaline and proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers are already mature, while anion exchange membrane (AEM) and solid oxide electrolyzers are still under development. These technologies differ in numerous ways, most notably in cell design and variations within components. thyssenkrupp nucera has been selected the preferred supplier of a 300-MW electrolyzer by Cepsa for its green hydrogen plant in Spain. Under the agreement, the Spanish energy company has awarded the electrolyzer specialist a contract to provide a basic engineering design package.
North Carolina-based OneH2 has launched new cylinder technology for 931-bar high-pressure hydrogen tube trailers. The cylinder technology, a culmination of several years of development and investment, operates under a special permit issued by the U.S. Department of Transport for use on roads.
Hysata has closed the largest Series B in Australian clean tech history, announcing a USD 111-million investment round with strong backing from existing strategic and financial investors. Hysata will use the funding to expand electrolyser production capacity at its manufacturing facility in Wollongong, New South Wales, and further develop its technology.
The PosHYdon pilot successfully kicked off its onshore testing at the InVesta premises in Alkmaar, the Netherlands. PosHYdon aims to produce green hydrogen on an operational gas platform in the Dutch North Sea. This will mark the first integration of three offshore energy systems, where hydrogen will be transported to land along with gas via an existing pipeline.
SIAD Macchine Impianti, a SIAD Group company, has announced the launch of its high-pressure hydrogen compressor equipped with oil-free technology. The compressor has been specifically designed to meet the needs of the transportation and hydrogen refueling station sectors, positioning the company as a major player in the sustainable mobility supply chain.
The Finnish majority state-owned company Fortum has announced it will build a hydrogen production pilot plant in Loviisa, Finland. The plant will be located in the Källa area, near Fortum’s Loviisa nuclear power plant on a plot owned by the company. The construction of the Kalla test center will begin in the summer of 2024, and the plant is scheduled to be commissioned in late 2025.
Metacon AB and Siemens AB have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enter into a partnership aimed at accelerating the manufacturing of hydrogen production systems in Sweden, for the European market. Under this MoU, Siemens will become a technology partner to Metacon.
PEM electrolysis technology provider H-TEC SYSTEMS and industrial services provider Bilfinger have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for a collaboration aimed at jointly developing green hydrogen projects in Europe. The non-exclusive strategic partnership is centered on the development of large-scale electrolysis projects.
