Water electrolyzers are electrochemical devices used to split water into its constituent elements, hydrogen and oxygen, by passage of an electrical current. There are four main types of electrolyzers: alkaline and proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers are already mature, while anion exchange membrane (AEM) and solid oxide electrolyzers are still under development. These technologies differ in numerous ways, most notably in cell design and variations within components. Ohmium has announced a strategic partnership with Ten08 Energy, a Houston-based clean ammonia project developer. This collaboration will see Ohmium’s PEM electrolyzer solutions supply green hydrogen for Ten08 Energy’s 500-MW clean ammonia project on the Gulf coast of Texas, USA.

Battolyser Systems, the Dutch manufacturer of an electrolyser with battery functionality, has raised €30 million in Series A funding from Global Cleantech Capital, Innovation Industries, and Invest-NL. The company will use the funding to scale its operations and bring its next-generation electrolyser to market in 2025.
Sunfire has been awarded a contract for a 100-MW alkaline electrolyzer at RWE’s hydrogen site in Lingen, Germany. The order comes a few days after RWE’s final investment decision for its largest hydrogen project to date, which is scheduled to begin operation by the end of 2027.
