Water electrolyzers are electrochemical devices used to split water into its constituent elements, hydrogen and oxygen, by passage of an electrical current. There are four main types of electrolyzers: alkaline and proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers are already mature, while anion exchange membrane (AEM) and solid oxide electrolyzers are still under development. These technologies differ in numerous ways, most notably in cell design and variations within components. VoltaChem, its founding partner TNO and the industrial partner HyGear have initiated the HERSO project to accelerate the integration of Solid Oxide Electrolyzer (SOE) technology for hydrogen production in the process industry through cost reduction of the SOE system.
TotalEnergies has entered into an agreement with Adani Enterprises Limited (AEL) to acquire a 25% interest in Adani New Industries Limited (ANIL). As its first milestone, ANIL will target a production of one million metric tons of green hydrogen per year by 2030.
