Research into green hydrogen tech main objective of Iberdrola-led consortium

The Atmosphere consortium, led by Iberdrola, will conduct research into new technologies associated with critical equipment used in green hydrogen production plants. Covering the entire value chain, the project aims to enable a significant reduction in investment and operational costs of these plants.

Other consortium participants include Ingeteam, Inerco, ABC Compressors, IDESA and Innomerics.

With a total budget of €6.2 million earmarked entirely for research, the initiative is set to run until 2025 and forms part of the Missions programme of the Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI), an agency of the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation.

Throughout this project, research into different technologies and elements associated with green hydrogen will enable progress to be made in the decarbonisation of industry, as established as a priority objective of the Green Hydrogen Roadmap in Spain.

The public-private commitment will see the participation of seven public research organisations, including TECNALIA, IIT Comillas, the Idonial Foundation, the Public University of Navarre (UPNA), the Andalusian Association for Research and Industrial Cooperation (AICIA), the CEIT Technology Centre Association, and IDESA Technology and Research Centre.

To validate the developments carried out in the project, Iberdrola’s 20 MW plant in Puertollano, Ciudad Real, will be used.

On 15 February 2023, the project launch meeting held at the Iberdrola Training Campus in San Agustin de Guadalix established the starting point for the development of the project.
