Water electrolyzers are electrochemical devices used to split water into its constituent elements, hydrogen and oxygen, by passage of an electrical current. There are four main types of electrolyzers: alkaline and proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers are already mature, while anion exchange membrane (AEM) and solid oxide electrolyzers are still under development. These technologies differ in numerous ways, most notably in cell design and variations within components. Accelera™ by Cummins will supply Chevron New Energies with a 5-MW electrolyzer system for the production of electrolytic hydrogen in Lost Hills, CA. The project leverages the strategic agreement between Cummins and Chevron to stimulate the commercial and industrial adoption of hydrogen and other lower-carbon-intensity fuels in North America.
Global Energy Storage (GES) and Provaris Energy have entered into a collaboration agreement to develop a gaseous hydrogen import facility at the GES terminal in Rotterdam, capable of importing both refrigerated ammonia and compressed hydrogen, with redeliveries into barges, rail, truck and the hydrogen grid (HyNetwork) operated by Gasunie.
Verdagy announced today a strategic agreement with Doral, a renewable energy developer, in which Verdagy will supply green hydrogen electrolysis systems to Doral through 2030. The agreement is global, with a focus on green hydrogen projects Doral is developing in Europe, the United States, Australia, and the Middle East.
Fortescue has officially opened its electrolyser manufacturing facility in Gladstone, Queensland, Australia today – one of the first globally to feature an automated assembly line. Spanning 15,000 m², the facility was constructed and fully commissioned in just over two years and has the capacity to produce more than 2 GW of PEM electrolyser stacks annually.
Stiesdal Hydrogen and Danfoss have signed a commercial agreement on hydrogen electrolyzer production, signalling the readiness of the two companies to introduce their latest innovation to the global market: an advanced hydrogen electrolyzer solution based on heat exchanger design.
Vallourec and NextChem Tech, NextChem’s subsidiary dedicated to decarbonization technologies, have signed a partnership agreement aimed at integrating Delphy hydrogen storage solution, developed by Vallourec, into hydrogen and green ammonia production projects where NextChem is involved as technology provider worldwide.
Finnish energy company Helen will build a green hydrogen production plant in Vuosaari, Helsinki. This is Helen’s first hydrogen project with which the company will increase its expertise to meet the needs of large-scale hydrogen production and enhance the flexibility to the entire energy system. This is also the first green hydrogen production plant to be built in Helsinki.
IMI has announced a record year for orders throughout the hydrogen value chain in 2023. Last year saw the manufacturer double its 2022 orders to deliver £15 million worth of projects to support the generation of hydrogen. Key milestones included a successful field test of the company’s IMI PEM electrolyser at its 16,000m² facility in Sardinia in May 2023.
