Water electrolyzers are electrochemical devices used to split water into its constituent elements, hydrogen and oxygen, by passage of an electrical current. There are four main types of electrolyzers: alkaline and proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers are already mature, while anion exchange membrane (AEM) and solid oxide electrolyzers are still under development. These technologies differ in numerous ways, most notably in cell design and variations within components. Gradiant, a global solutions provider for advanced water and wastewater treatment, has announced the launch of ProtiumSource, an end-to-end solution that delivers high-purity, electrolyzer-ready water with the lowest energy demand, fully powered by renewable energy.
Ohmium International has announced European CE mark approval for its Lotus 1.5 electrolyzer. The CE mark indicates that a product meets the European Union’s stringent safety, health, and environmental protection requirements, enabling distribution across the European Economic Area (EEA).
Plug Power has secured an order for 25 MW of PEM electrolyzer systems from bp and Iberdrola’s joint venture, Castellón Green Hydrogen S.L., to decarbonize operations at bp’s Castellón refinery in Valencia, Spain, by avoiding an estimated 23,000 tons of CO₂ emissions per year.

Advanced Ionics has announced that Shell International Exploration and Production Inc., through its Shell GameChanger program, will sponsor a pilot project aimed at testing Advanced Ionics’ water-vapor electrolyzer technology to produce low-cost hydrogen.
H-TEC SYSTEMS will supply a 1-MW PEM electrolyzer for a green hydrogen project on the Spanish island of Fuerteventura. Led by IR Maxoinversiones, the project aims to decarbonize mobility on the island, using wind and solar energy from the company’s photovoltaic plant to produce 100% renewable, emission-free hydrogen.
Hygreen Energy has launched its first Anion Exchange Membrane (AEM) electrolyzer system. Customizable to generate up to 100 Nm³/h (500 kW) of hydrogen and operating across a load range of 10% to 120%, the AEM system is designed for easy installation and operation as a fully integrated plug-and-play package.
Ohmium has announced a strategic partnership with Ten08 Energy, a Houston-based clean ammonia project developer. This collaboration will see Ohmium’s PEM electrolyzer solutions supply green hydrogen for Ten08 Energy’s 500-MW clean ammonia project on the Gulf coast of Texas, USA.
