Water electrolyzers are electrochemical devices used to split water into its constituent elements, hydrogen and oxygen, by passage of an electrical current. There are four main types of electrolyzers: alkaline and proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers are already mature, while anion exchange membrane (AEM) and solid oxide electrolyzers are still under development. These technologies differ in numerous ways, most notably in cell design and variations within components. IMI has supplied its VIVO proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyser for a research project exploring how waste heat, as a by-product of hydrogen-based electricity generation, can be utilised in district heating systems.
Ballard Power Systems has announced the signing of a multi-year supply agreement with Stadler US to supply 8 MW of FCmove®-HD+ fuel cell engines to power trains for the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans).
EVOLOH has signed a supply agreement with a U.S.-based renewable energy developer for 0.5 GW of electrolyzer stacks. The supply is secured through a non-refundable deposit that applies to the purchase cost once EVOLOH completes its Lowell, MA, Manufacturing Center of Excellence.
Nel Hydrogen Electrolyser AS, a subsidiary of Nel ASA, has signed a new contract worth approximately €5 million for 10 MW of alkaline electrolyser equipment with Samsung C&T Corporation Engineering & Construction Group. CSIRO, Australia’s national science agency, has successfully trialled its innovative hydrogen production technology at BlueScope’s Port Kembla Steelworks in New South Wales, demonstrating that affordable and renewable hydrogen can be generated at scale to help decarbonise heavy industry.
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has reached a significant milestone by completing 1,200 hours of operation in a long-term durability test of its 90 MPa-class ultra-high-pressure liquid hydrogen (LH₂) booster pump. These pumps are used at hydrogen refueling stations to refuel hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and hydrogen tube trailers.
Gasunie has entered into a long-term frame agreement with Mokveld to supply control valves for its hydrogen delivery stations. This agreement is part of Gasunie’s plans to develop Hynetwork, a nationwide hydrogen network in the Netherlands.
Hygenco Green Energies, an Indian company developing and deploying green hydrogen and green ammonia assets, has announced a partnership with Topsoe as the licensor for its green ammonia plant in Gopalpur, Odisha, India.
