Water electrolyzers are electrochemical devices used to split water into its constituent elements, hydrogen and oxygen, by passage of an electrical current. There are four main types of electrolyzers: alkaline and proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers are already mature, while anion exchange membrane (AEM) and solid oxide electrolyzers are still under development. These technologies differ in numerous ways, most notably in cell design and variations within components. Quest One has inaugurated its new Gigahub in Hamburg, Germany, dedicated to the serial and automated production of electrolysis stacks. With the opening of this new production site, the company, formerly known as H-TEC SYSTEMS, has officially rebranded as Quest One.

Ohmium International has announced European CE mark approval for its Lotus 1.5 electrolyzer. The CE mark indicates that a product meets the European Union’s stringent safety, health, and environmental protection requirements, enabling distribution across the European Economic Area (EEA).
Plug Power has secured an order for 25 MW of PEM electrolyzer systems from bp and Iberdrola’s joint venture, Castellón Green Hydrogen S.L., to decarbonize operations at bp’s Castellón refinery in Valencia, Spain, by avoiding an estimated 23,000 tons of CO₂ emissions per year.
