Water electrolyzers are electrochemical devices used to split water into its constituent elements, hydrogen and oxygen, by passage of an electrical current. There are four main types of electrolyzers: alkaline and proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers are already mature, while anion exchange membrane (AEM) and solid oxide electrolyzers are still under development. These technologies differ in numerous ways, most notably in cell design and variations within components. Norwegian Hydrogen, in partnership with Provaris Energy, has signed a conditional term sheet with Uniper Global Commodities for the supply, transport, and offtake of RFNBO-certified hydrogen.
Sunfire has secured a €200-million syndicated bonding line, provided by a consortium led by Commerzbank and other German and European commercial banks. The financing will support the Dresden-based electrolysis company in further advancing the realization of industrial customer projects.
IMI is set to provide a PEM electrolyser for a new hydrogen refuelling station at the Port of Klaipėda in Lithuania, to be developed by EPC contractor MT Group. This project will position the Port of Klaipėda as the first in the Baltic region to produce green hydrogen on-site.

DNV has released a new standard, Electrolyser Systems DNV-ST-J301, embedded in DNV’s certification framework for the equipment and facilities used in producing hydrogen and its derivatives through water electrolysis.
Hygreen Energy has delivered a 25-MW electrolyzer system to Huadian Weifang Power Generation, located in Weifang, Shandong, China. This marks the largest hydrogen production initiative in the region to date.
IMI has supplied its VIVO proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyser for a research project exploring how waste heat, as a by-product of hydrogen-based electricity generation, can be utilised in district heating systems.
