Water electrolyzers are electrochemical devices used to split water into its constituent elements, hydrogen and oxygen, by passage of an electrical current. There are four main types of electrolyzers: alkaline and proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers are already mature, while anion exchange membrane (AEM) and solid oxide electrolyzers are still under development. These technologies differ in numerous ways, most notably in cell design and variations within components. Swedish multinational power company Vattenfall has been awarded £9.3 million in innovation funding by the UK Government for the world’s first hydrogen-producing offshore wind turbine, with the electrolyzer sited directly onto an existing operational turbine.
WITT, a German-headquartered manufacturer of gas-related equipment, highlights its HD gas filter for installation in hydrogen pipework. The filter provides reliable protection against fine contaminants and condensates in the gas supply.
