Water electrolyzers are electrochemical devices used to split water into its constituent elements, hydrogen and oxygen, by passage of an electrical current. There are four main types of electrolyzers: alkaline and proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers are already mature, while anion exchange membrane (AEM) and solid oxide electrolyzers are still under development. These technologies differ in numerous ways, most notably in cell design and variations within components. Elessent Clean Technologies has announced the launch of the Brink® ezSEP™ high-efficiency separation system poised to set new standards of separation and purification excellence in green hydrogen production. Utilizing Brink® ezSEP™ results in lower maintenance costs and reduced renewable energy usage.
HydrogenPro ASA has announced an investment in a new production line for its Gen3 electrodes, with an anticipated annual capacity of 90–100 MW. This will quadruple the company’s large electrode production capacity. Production is expected to commence in Q1 2025.
The European energy company VoltH2 has selected Sweco as its partner for the design and development of a new green hydrogen production plant in Delfzijl, the Netherlands. The production facility has received the necessary permits and is currently in the design phase.
Plug Power has announced that it has secured an order for 25 MW of proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer systems for a customer in Europe. The project will employ five of Plug’s 5 MW containerized PEM electrolyzers to reduce the carbon footprint of the company by using green hydrogen.
On 18 June, the cornerstone for Elcogen’s new factory was laid in the Loovälja Industrial Park near Tallinn. With its singular product approach, Rely enables a significant reduction in both CAPEX & OPEX, driving down the levelized cost of hydrogen.
Topsoe, ABB, and Fluor have formed an alliance to design a standardized concept for building Topsoe’s next SOEC factory. The aim is to continuously develop processes to reduce costs, enhance safety, and secure an efficient project execution via a standardized approach.
