Water electrolyzers are electrochemical devices used to split water into its constituent elements, hydrogen and oxygen, by passage of an electrical current. There are four main types of electrolyzers: alkaline and proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers are already mature, while anion exchange membrane (AEM) and solid oxide electrolyzers are still under development. These technologies differ in numerous ways, most notably in cell design and variations within components. Asahi Kasei has received official approval to construct new facilities at its Kawasaki Works to manufacture electrolysis system components for both alkaline water electrolysis and chlor-alkali electrolysis.
Stargate Hydrogen and OX2 have signed an agreement to accelerate the commercial rollout of industrial-scale renewable hydrogen production in the Nordic region. The partnership will begin with a major project in Åland, Finland, powered by Stargate Hydrogen’s new 10 MW Aurora electrolyser system.

Nel Hydrogen US has received a firm purchase order from H2 Energy for one MC500, a containerised 2.5 MW PEM electrolyser. The system will be delivered to the Association for Waste Disposal (Verein für Abfallentsorgung, VfA) in Buchs, Switzerland, where H2 Energy has been contracted to deliver a turn-key hydrogen production and refuelling facility.
