Water electrolyzers are electrochemical devices used to split water into its constituent elements, hydrogen and oxygen, by passage of an electrical current. There are four main types of electrolyzers: alkaline and proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers are already mature, while anion exchange membrane (AEM) and solid oxide electrolyzers are still under development. These technologies differ in numerous ways, most notably in cell design and variations within components. Fabrum and Fortescue have commissioned Australia’s largest liquid hydrogen plant on a mine site. Located at Christmas Creek, the plant comprises a hydrogen liquefaction facility, liquid hydrogen storage, and a liquid hydrogen refueling station.

ITM Power has announced the signing of a contract for the REFHYNE II project, following Shell’s recent positive Final Investment Decision (FID). ITM will supply 100 MW of TRIDENT stacks and skids to the Shell Rheinland Energy and Chemicals Park in Germany. Linde Engineering has been chosen as the EPC integrator and will collaborate closely with ITM.
German utility RWE has commissioned its pilot electrolyzer plant in Lingen, Germany. The facility, located at RWE’s Emsland gas-fired power plant site, has a capacity of 14 MW and can generate up to 270 kilograms of green hydrogen per hour using renewable electricity.
ArtIn Energy, an American renewable energy company specializing in innovative solutions for a sustainable future, has signed a contract to construct 876 MW of green hydrogen production facilities valued at USD 25.4 billion. Further details of the contract have not been disclosed.
Metacon AB has been awarded a contract to supply a 30 MW pressurised alkaline electrolysis plant for hydrogen production to Motor Oil (Hellas) Corinth Refineries S.A., Greece. The contract is valued at €19.8 million, equivalent to approximately SEK 226 million at today’s exchange rate.
