Water electrolyzers are electrochemical devices used to split water into its constituent elements, hydrogen and oxygen, by passage of an electrical current. There are four main types of electrolyzers: alkaline and proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers are already mature, while anion exchange membrane (AEM) and solid oxide electrolyzers are still under development. These technologies differ in numerous ways, most notably in cell design and variations within components. UAE paves way for domestic manufacturing of electrolysers

On 1 June, at the ‘Make it in the Emirates’ Forum in Abu Dhabi, the UAE Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology announced its support for a strategic collaboration agreement between ADNOC, John Cockerill Hydrogen and Strata Manufacturing, aiming to manufacture electrolysers in the UAE for local use and export.

IMI VIVO

IMI Critical Engineering successfully tests its VIVO electrolyser

IMI Critical Engineering has successfully completed its first field test for the generation of green hydrogen using its new IMI VIVO PEM electrolyser. The pilot test saw a 200 kW electrolyser successfully complete its test program in May 2023, generating 4.0 kg/h (44.0 Nm3/h) at 30 barg of green hydrogen.
