Researchers at the Robert Gordon University (RGU) have designed a tubular cell that can withstand high temperatures. The team have developed a solution to aid the production of hydrogen by designing, fabricating, and testing electrodes used in solid oxide steam electrolysis (SOSE) for waste steam generated from nuclear power plants.

Swiss renewable energy company Axpo is partnering with Australian renewable hydrogen company Infinite Green Energy (IGE) on the Valle Peligna Hydrogen Project in Abruzzo, Italy. The project includes a 30 MW electrolyser, powered by a 45 MWp solar plant, making it one of the largest hydrogen plants in Italy.

Singapore-based HET Hydrogen, a subsidiary of Horizon Fuel Cell Technologies, has revealed its first MW-scale electrolyser installation. Commissioned in late 2023, the company’s 1-MW electrolyser will supply hydrogen to an integrated project including a hydrogen refuelling station and a fuel cell test centre in Foshan, one of the UN-designated ‘Hydrogen Demonstration Cities’ in China.

Finnish electric utility company Oulu Energy is planning to build a 100 MW electrolytic hydrogen production plant in Oulu, northern Finland. The project’s planning partner is P2X Solutions. The investment decision is estimated to be made in autumn 2025, with the plant potentially being operational by 2028 at the earliest.

Finland’s first industrial-scale electrolysis plant has been installed in Harjavalta, featuring a 20 MW pressurized alkaline electrolyzer by Sunfire. The project developer P2X Solutions and its partners expect production of green hydrogen in the second half of the year. A purchase agreement has already been signed.

TÜV SÜD Product Service GmbH has become the first certification body to be accredited by the German accreditation authority DAkkS for testing and certification of hydrogen generation and electrolysis systems in accordance with ISO 22734:2019.

Industrie De Nora, an Italian multinational specializing in electrochemistry, has received multiple orders through its subsidiary, De Nora Deutschland GmbH, from thyssenkrupp nucera for the supply of electrolyzer cells for a water electrolysis plant currently under construction in Sweden.

Green Hydrogen Systems A/S has announced an order for nine units of the HyProvide® A-series electrolyser, totalling a capacity of 8.1 MW. The units are scheduled for delivery in 2024 and 2025. The order has been placed by one of the company’s existing customers in the UK specialising in renewable off-grid energy generation.

HNO International is set to develop a hydrogen production facility in Houston, Texas, which will mark the inaugural installation of its Scalable Hydrogen Energy Platform (SHEP™), a modular and scalable hydrogen energy system designed to produce, store, and dispense green hydrogen from water using a 1.25 MW electrolyzer.
