Hydrogen Tech World Expo & Conference – Essen, 26–27 June 2024

The production of green hydrogen will play, in almost all available scenarios, an essential role in a climate-neutral economy. Electrolyzer deployment is therefore expected to expand rapidly in the coming years and decades.

The need for technology exchange is of crucial importance to support advances in this industry and to ensure the maximum efficiency of new-build production facilities.

The Hydrogen Tech World Exhibition and Conference in 2024 will deliver a platform for all participants in the global hydrogen production supply chain, thereby facilitating knowledge transfer, networking, and the development of a safe, efficient and sustainable energy supply for future generations.

Hydrogen Tech World Expo & Conference will be co-hosted with Green Steel World Expo & Conference, a sister event that puts the spotlight on sustainable steel production.

Held in Essen, the Hydrogen Tech World Exhibition and Conference will focus primarily on the technology used in green hydrogen production, storage and transport.

Key topics include:

Electrolyser technologies

  • Alkaline electrolysers
  • Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolysers
  • Solid Oxide Electrolysis Cells (SOEC)
  • Anion Exchange Membrane (AEM) electrolysers
  • Membranes, anodes, cathodes

Electrolyser Balance of Plant

  • Water treatment
  • Gas treatment
  • Heat exchangers
  • Sensors
  • Pipes, valves, sealings

Storage and transport

  • Storage tanks
  • Compression
  • Pipeline equipment
  • Valves
  • Liquid hydrogen & LOHCs

Why Essen?

On 26 & 27 June 2024, the Messe Essen Expo Center will welcome a global audience united by a keen interest in hydrogen production technologies.

Event at the heart of the hydrogen industry

Essen – at the heart of Germany’s ‘Hydrogen Valley’.

Worldwide, governments and industries alike are embracing green hydrogen as a keystone for the energy transition. Nowhere is this more evident than in the Ruhr area of Germany. Long known as the industrial heartland of Germany, the Ruhr region is now also home to a rapidly expanding hydrogen economy and infrastructure which enjoys the support of local and national government.

Many leading companies are actively involved in developing the hydrogen sector within this region. For example, energy company STEAG, steel producer thyssenkrupp Steel and electrolysis experts thyssenkrupp Uhde Chlorine Engineers have joined forces to provide green hydrogen and oxygen for steel production.

And no fewer than eight companies and institutions are working on a cross-sectoral development plan for hydrogen infrastructure and production in the Ruhr region. Their common vision is not just for the Ruhr area to become a spearhead in the energy transformation, but also to demonstrate and promote a transition that is fast, connected and sustainable.

Located in the heart of Germany’s ‘Hydrogen Valley’, the city of Essen is therefore the perfect venue for the Hydrogen Tech World Exhibition and Conference. The show will function as a meeting point for the many and diverse companies in the immediate vicinity involved with hydrogen. For example, companies using hydrogen to power industrial processes, making hydrogen via electrolysis, storing and transporting hydrogen, etc. Not to mention the great number of manufacturers that provide all the necessary equipment – pumps, valves, electrolyser stacks, heat exchangers, coolers, tanks, pipes, actuators, etc, required throughout the burgeoning hydrogen sector.

Essen, city of development

Hardly any other German city has undergone such a development over the centuries as Essen: from a medieval settlement with a monastery to one of the world’s most important centres of the coal and steel industry to a modern metropolis in which globally active companies from the fields of administration, health, trade and services have found their home.
