The HGHH – a consortium of Luxcara and Hamburger Energiewerke – is developing one of Germany’s first large-scale electrolysis projects to advance the decarbonization of industry and the Port of Hamburg. Under the newly signed contract, Kraftanlagen will be responsible for the planning, delivery, and construction of all auxiliary systems surrounding the electrolyzer.
These include power distribution and water treatment systems, cooling and compressor stations, and connections to the hydrogen network and trailer loading station. The infrastructure will provide the flexibility needed for efficient transport of the green hydrogen produced on site.
Preparatory works to stabilize the subsoil on the 16,000 m² site began in June. Construction of the plant infrastructure is scheduled to start in early 2026, with commissioning planned for the second half of 2027. Once operational, the facility will integrate a 100 MW electrolyzer supplied by Siemens Energy and is expected to produce around 10,000 tons of green hydrogen per year. The hydrogen will be distributed to customers via the HH-WIN network and a dedicated trailer loading station.
Holger Matthiesen, Managing Director at HGHH and Director of Offshore Wind & Green Hydrogen at Luxcara, commented: “We are delighted to have gained Kraftanlagen as an experienced partner from Germany, who will support us with their expertise in implementing this pioneering project for the green hydrogen economy in Hamburg.”
Heinrich Dauer, Head of the Energy Business Unit at Kraftanlagen, added: “We are very proud to be implementing this project and supporting HGHH in realizing its vision. Moorburg, as a flagship project of the energy transition, embodies our shared vision for a green future.”
