This marks the first demonstration of SOEC hydrogen production at a thermal power station in Japan. The project aims to achieve hydrogen production with world-leading electrolysis efficiency by applying DENSO’s heat-management technology to minimise heat discharge from the SOECs. Based on the results, the partners plan to scale up from 200 kW to several megawatts as they move towards practical application of next-generation SOEC systems.
JERA is targeting net-zero CO₂ emissions across its domestic and international operations by 2050 and is developing a hydrogen and ammonia supply chain alongside zero-emission thermal power technologies. DENSO is leveraging its expertise in mobility-related technologies to advance hydrogen utilisation. Through this joint demonstration, the companies aim to accelerate the establishment of a global green hydrogen and ammonia supply chain and contribute to decarbonisation efforts worldwide.
