New electrolyser technology to be demonstrated by TTP and Ionomr

TTP, an independent technology company, and Ionomr Innovations, a designer and manufacturer of ion-exchange membranes and polymers for clean energy, are joining forces to demonstrate a new green hydrogen electrolyser designed for mass production.

Taking advantage of Ionomr’s progressive ion-exchange products and TTP’s extensive experience in technology commercialisation, the joint development is expected to deliver electrolysers capable of producing green hydrogen with low operating and capital costs.

From the outset, the core technology being developed by the partners has been designed to facilitate the manufacturing scale-up of electrolysers by taking a novel approach to material selection and leveraging high-volume manufacturing processes used in other industries.

This approach was chosen to address the pressing need to rapidly ramp up global electrolyser manufacturing capacity in order to meet forecast industry demand as well as climate change targets.

The partners have set themselves an ambitious three-year timetable to make the new electrolyser commercially available.

The technology now being developed incorporates Ionomr’s highly durable and high-performance anion-exchange product Aemion+. TTP is contributing intellectual property to make electrolyser stacks suitable for high-volume, low-cost manufacture.

“We are delighted to form this partnership with TTP,” said Bill Haberlin, CEO of Ionomr Innovations. “They have the scale and the experience necessary to integrate our advanced materials into a new electrolyser technology that could revolutionize how electrochemical stacks, and green hydrogen, are produced in the future.”

Charles Cooke, Sustainable Energy Technology Lead at TTP, added: “We are excited to be working with Ionomr’s high-performance materials, which offer opportunities to develop cleaner and more efficient technology solutions to address the climate emergency – in this case a low-cost electrolyser technology for green hydrogen generation.”

TTP is in discussions with electrolyser operators and accepting enquiries for pilot system installations. Additional partnership opportunities are expected to arise to supply and support installations of the new electrolyser once the new technology has been demonstrated.
