IMI to supply electrolyser for green hydrogen project in Italy

IMI has secured a contract with Polytec Energy to deliver a 1 MW PEM electrolyser for the H2_Polytec Project in Storo, Italy.

The project is among the winners of a call issued by the Atonomous Province of Trento to support the construction of green hydrogen production plants in disused industrial areas under Mission 2 ‘Green Revolution and Ecological Transition’ of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).

Promoted by Polytec Energy and its parent company Polytec Spa, the initiative will test green hydrogen production powered by photovoltaic systems with a total installed capacity of 4.4 MWp. The hydrogen will be supplied to industrial users in the Storo region, particularly in the Ex-Paisoli area, for applications such as painting and drying processes and metalworking furnaces.

Alessandro Lauria, Sales Director at IMI, said: “This project represents a concrete step towards the decarbonisation of industry and the regeneration of brownfield sites, especially the Ex-Paisoli in Storo. The installation of our PEM electrolyser, powered exclusively by photovoltaic energy, is a great example of how technology can be environmentally friendly while also enabling us to regenerate industrial areas.”

Mattia Rosa, Project Manager at Polytec Energy, added: “The project is running smoothly and on schedule. With the funding obtained and the additional direct investment we chose to make, the green hydrogen Polytec produces will contribute to the industrial area’s energy transition. We hope to see the project’s wider benefits in the local area, bringing increased employment and development of new skills.”
