The newly designed multiple element gas container (MEGC) enables efficient multimodal logistics and marks a significant step towards decarbonising hydrogen supply chains. The project is supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) as part of its hydrogen technology offensive.
The MEGC stands out as the first 500-bar container approved for rail transport, offering a significantly increased load capacity of 1,223 kilograms. One train equipped with these units can replace up to 52 lorries, cutting CO₂e emissions by more than 80% and helping to ease road congestion.
Specifically optimised for use on carrying wagons, the container also features side loading and unloading capabilities. Integrated smart sensors continuously monitor temperature, pressure and vibrations during transit, ensuring a high level of safety for transporting this sensitive energy carrier.
The new MEGC solution combines high capacity, safety, and environmental performance, providing an important logistics link for the delivery of hydrogen to industrial consumers.
